Frou-Frou

This print at my sister’s house makes me giggle. I adore the smokey-text, the disembodied stockinged sexy legs, the exotic kohled eyes flirting to the side. Old timey advertising prints are so pretty.
My Valentine
~
I can’t commit to Valentine’s Day. Some years I like the holiday, but mostly I don’t for all the same boring reasons people have said before. So, yadda yadda. One thing I always like about Valentine’s season is the word “valentine”. It’s an old-world, Victorian doily name. Which reminds me of a time I went through a Victorian-loving phase in which I...

This is my nephew. We’re trying to get him programmed for blogging. This way, when he enters kindergarten he can write to the accolades of dozens, “I’m so pumped. I get to play with clay tomorrow!”

Olin Park Lights
~
I recently took a couple over to Olin Park for their engagement photos. This particular moment, the lights, the evening light, the two of them bundled up against the cold, became a memory I wanted to revisit again. That’s what’s great about photos; I’m able to grab a segment of the moment and save it for later. I feel pretty lucky.

Recycling Junk
~
~
Early this fall, I biked past a large pile of curbed household flotsam left for the junk man to collect. In it I saw a couple of salvageable pieces. That’s a tricky thing to think about garbage as sometimes junk remains junk if nothing is done with it.
Filled with the spirit of craft and renewal I finished my bike ride, grabbed the keys to the car and drove over to the pile to pull out...
Carp (eh?) Diem

During a trip to Omaha, NE this last summer, we had the pleasure of visiting their expansive zoo. Running under a bridge were these carp. They were literally teeming.

What A Girl May See

I’m not sure what people think when they hear the snap of a camera from one bathroom stall over. When I share a bathroom I try to keep my bathroom photography to a minimum.

Brother and sister-in-law days after their wedding. Somewhere in Tennessee, on a hill next to a Wal(star)Mart.
They are adorable together.
Newlyweds
~
These two are my brother and sister-in-law just a couple days after their wedding day. They are well suited.
I’ve got weddings on the brain, having just been to a lovely wedding and now going through these photos. Marriage is a wonderful institution for love.
As You Wish
~
I’m going through a bunch of photos in order to clear off my hard drive. The furthest photos are from two summers ago, taken in Tennessee. The image above is from that trip.
Pictures of green hills and summer make cold days like this both bareable and unbareable. I’m sure you understand why. It comes down to hope and contrast.

Close Boughs and Hill House
~
~
Last couple of photos from my recent trip to Galena, IL. The stores were all ready for the holidays and the smell of freshly cut pine filled the air.
The sun was setting when my mom and I started our walk down Main St. I could see a house on the hill above the store fronts. It caught my attention and I wondered if anyone still lives there and what do they see if they looked down.

Lots of interesting architecture in Galena, but even with all the old bricks and fancy windows I love this fire escape.

I went to Galena, Il. last Saturday. I was helping to take a washer and dryer to my brother. While there my mom and I walked around Main St. This week I’ll be posting pictures from that day.

Super Glue
~
I’ve always wondered what keeps super glue from drying in an opened tube. This tube corrected me. Super glue does dry in an opened tube.
That is, unless you know what to do (clean the nozzle and fix a sewing needle inside it).
Lakeside Fibers

A friend and I met for some cocoa and threads at Lakeside Fibers. As soon as I walked in, I fell in love. I couldn’t knit anything more than a scarf or crochet more than a chain but after spending some time in the store and relaxing with some coffee in the back, I’m on fire to learn more.

Cougar Fish

Am I alone in feeling a little heeby-jeebied by heavy Germanic/Scandanavian decor? Then, to get over the willies I flip an internal switch and it becomes ironic.
That’s a savage Cougar Fish in the middle.

To Protect it from Predators

My mom gave me this squash. I think of it as only decoration. Anybody else have a good idea for squash of this ilk? Food? How can it be prepared? Maybe a bird house? I don’t know. This squash has me stumped.

Cold Sesame Noodles
~
Great potluck or hot day recipe as sesame noodles can be served cold or at room temperature. A versatile dish, Cold Sesame Noodles, can have almost any vegetables you have in the garden or fridge added for color or flavor; like thinly sliced cucumbers or sautéed or grilled zucchini, fresh sprouts or roughly chopped broccoli.
